The bicycle wave reduces waiting times for cyclists at traffic lights. Anyone approaching a traffic light is detected at an early stage either by a thermal imaging camera or by an induction loop embedded in the ground and a corresponding programme is initialised to quickly switch to green. The waiting time at the traffic lights is considerably reduced and convenience is increased as there is no need to press a button at the lights. The automatic detection system consists of 8 thermal imaging cameras and 11 induction loops, SWARCO.
